questions and answers

Follow up and answers to all of our questions:

Charlie’s Questions:

1.The pitch of each roof area, including how and where they transition and how the media levels will correspond with the changes in slope:

Answer:

- karla and carina went over where all the seams are in the roof and where the transitions take place. we have the drawing with all of that indicated. there is the capacity to increase the level of the media to reduce the slopes.

- the drawing shows all the radius changes as well as transitions in slopes

karla has the sheets and will forward to the team

* will note areas that are planters and do not require green roof components on drawing

* will note fill conditions that eliminate the need for slope stabilization...we need to work with the engineer and get approval with weight issues for these areas.

A detail of exactly how the concrete walls will be poured, particularly if they will be poured before or after the roof deck is waterproofed. This decision will greatly impact how we approach the design of the drainage.

answer:

-the walls will get poured after the membrane and the an additional membrane will be poured up the wall, another set of waterproofing that goes up the wall and seals it. they will be poured in late dec..the membrane will be laid and we need grade. we need to top of media will be so so we know which level of waterproofing. WHAT DO ATTACHMENTS FOR SLOPE STABILIZATION LOOK LIKE? WE NEED DETAIL FOR THIS BEFORE THEY POUR. JAN 22

3.How the drainage will work (obviously related to the pitch and the walls). Essentially we need to understand how water will flow to drains and what obstacles we need to work around so that the roof drains properly.

answer:

-there are weep holes are located at base of structural beam to allow all water to flow through. There is one overflow drain…carina will locate it and karla know where that is and mark on the drawing.

CHARLIE: WE CAN DO THe DRAINAGE PLAN INFORMALLY WE JUST NEED RED LINES FOR CARINA.

Question: is it possible to lower parapet heights?what is soil depth can we reduce? what do we want to do about this?

answer: most are required for code and we did discuss areas that can be lowered...the only pit type situation is on the southern edge. we do have issues such as beam coverage that limit this as well. karla will mark on drawing which areas can be less soil.

Technical Questions: PLEASE SEE ANSWERS IN CAPS

After reviewing the plans we have a number of questions we would like to review on thursday.. please see below.

first we need clarifications on areas 8 and 9? are these the two north eastern sections that are not on A2.1a? WE ARE STILL AWAITING CLARIFICATION. THE EASTERN AREA IS MOSTLY COMPRISED OF THE CHILDREN’S GALLERY AND ON THE GROUND LANDSCAPE.

a2. 1a

general landscape questions:

1) will we have general landscaping east of stairs southeast of monument? clarified in meeting is soft what is hard? what about stairs? YES...STILL NEEDS TO BE DETERMINED. WE HAVE SOME FLEXIBILITY AT THIS POINT ALL AREAS WILL BE GRASS.

2) is this a grass slope? is there tiering? NOT STEPPED, JUST GENTLE SLOPE

3) How are you envisioning this area? THIS AREA CAN BE RETHOUGHT. NEEDS TO BE UNINVITING TO SKATE BOARDERS.

4) at what point to we get into roof on the west side arm? where the protection is needed from the apartment buildings?ON GROUND LEVEL, ONE TREE TO STOP YOUR EYE. THE BED RAISES FROM O”-42" HIGH. NEED TO BE CAREFUL WITH SOIL LEVEL TO MAINTAIN PARAPET HEIGHT ON NORTHERN EDGE AND PREVENT PEOPLE FROM ROOF ACCESS. TEH FOOTER RUNS UNDERNEATH THE BED. MAY HAVE TO LOOK INTO SCULPTURE OR SMALLER TREE OR TREE LIKE PLANT FOR FOCAL POINT.

5)trees in the landscape? NOT REALLY AN OPTION. SYCAMORES ADD A GOOD ELEMENT. NOT ENOUGH DEPTH OR ROOM FOR THEM. ALSO MAY TAKE AWAY FROM THE EXPEREIENCE.

6)what is our area of scope begin and end? does it include west of ampitheater? bus drop off? IT DOES INCLUDE BUSS DROP OFF AND REINSTALLING SOD LANDSCAPE CONNECTING TO THE PARK. WE ALSO MUST THINK ABOUT POSSIBLE SCREENING AROUND METHANE BOX AND DRY HYDRANT.

7)what is parking situation? what is going on on east side? access? who will be using this entrance?MOST PEOPLE WILL ENTER ON THE EAST BUT MAIN DOOR ENTRANCE IS ON THE WEST. LEAVE IT ALONE FOR NOW. SOD TO HAVE IT CONTINUOUS WITH THE PARK. PATHWAY DESIGN IS ALSO STRONG ENOUGH TO CARRY THE AREA WITH EXISTING SYCAMORE TREES.

8)how much attention do you want to to pay to the on the ground landscape? NOT MUCH FOCUS IS ON THE ROOF AND MAKING A SMOOTH TRANSISTION.

9)do you want distinctly different than the park? YES BUT SUBTLE AND BEAUTIFUL.

a.2.11

1) can we have a cut sheet to see what landscape lighting is spec'd? CARINA WILL PROVIDE

Is there electric specified for the irrigation system?MARTIN SAYS YES.. IS 20 AMPS ENOUGH? CHARLIE?

3) can there be electrical stub to near our taps for irrigation?YES

a2.1a:

1)what is the relationship between top of stem walls and finish floor elevation of the roof (a.1a)? MARKED ON PLAN.. DON'T WANT DEEP PIT TYPE FEELING.... LONG SOUTH SIDE BED AREA#6 IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AREA FOR MEDIA LEVEL TO MATCH THE PARAPET WALL SO PLANT MATERIAL IS VISIBLE.....THE HIEGHT ON TEH NORTH SIDE IS 54 INCHES: GRASS NEEDS TO BE 3’- 4' TALL :SOUTH SIDE PARAPET 36” AND NORTH SIDE PARAPET 54” SOUTH SIDE IS ALWAYS SHORTER THROUGHOUT.

2)how does this interface with beams and the covering of beams?

EXISTING SECTIONS ARE NOT ALL THE WAY ACCURATE.. WEEP HOLES AND DIRT REPLACE CONCRETE FILL IN BEAM SECTION. WEEP HOLE THROUGH A BEAM CANNOT BE BIGGER THAN 2” DIAMETER. IN THE AREAS WHERE WE HAVE STRUCTURAL BEAMS( IE AREA# 4) THEY ARE 12"HIGH FROM TOP OF DECK..... WE HAVE TO POINT LOAD BEAM AND IT APPEARS AS A LUMP.... WE DON’T WANT IT TO BE AN OBVIOUS LUMP SO MUST LUMP ACROSS THE BOARD THAT WAY DOESN’T APPEAR AS IT IS JUST OVER THE BEAM. WE NEED TO CREATE A GRADING PLAN FOR MEDIA HEIGHT. BEAMS VARY BETWEEN 4' AND 3' BEAM WIDTH IS ON SHEET S 2.4.. 12” DEPTH IS PARALLEL TO ROOF DECK

a2.1b

1)is there a tree in the north eastern corner?YES

2)what are the areas on south side of the monument around GL( gridlines) 13 and GL 18 ? benches, steps? AREA HAS CHANGED NOW SLOPED LAWN AND DIFFERENT SHAPED BEDS WITHIN SANDBLASTED CONCRETE.

3)do you want screening of grated area GL 17 YES, MAKE INACCESSIBLE AND SCREEN HEIGHT 3’-4’ HIGH, THERE IS ALSO THE MECHANICAL TO SCREEN AS WELL

4)is there a water fountain to drink on the east side of the monument? YES IT IS A RITUAL HAND BATH YES.. EXACT LOCATION WILL BE ON NEW PLAN

5)what does 25' shot crete wall look like? SEE IMAGE/ MODEL...TALL THERE ARE PLAQUES AND WILL NEED VINE COVERAGE. NEED TO MAKE A SMALL PLANTER FOR VINES

6)where does building end on east end( specifically for green roof) AFTER GL 18 NO BUILDING, ONLY A PLANTER

a2.1e

roof drainage plan:

1)drainage is coming to the middle of the SEAMS on C2-C13? YES

2)where does the number 4 drain apply as arrows do not match drainage locations? DOES NOT APPLY... AS WAS A MIX UP FROM THE OLD DRAINAGE PLAN

3)where does the northern most roof area drain into flat beds out through the west side? DOWN THROUGH CEILING AND OUT TO THE NORTH.. OTHER AREA JUST DRAINS TO THE SOUTH THROUGH PERF PIPE ON WESTERN MOST EDGE.

4) Is the drain along the northern side of the entry ramp a 4" perf pipe? YES

5) how does western ground level bed( entry alle) drain does it go through perf pipe as well and enter SD below?NOTHING ENTERS INTO SD( AS IT IS HUGE PIPE TO DEAL WITH UNDERGROUND WATER. SO THERE ARE WEEP HOLES OUT TO THE STREET.. PART OF THE BED HAS A SOLID FOOTING UNDERNEATH THAT WILL DRAIN TO THE WEST.

6)what is the difference weep holes 2" MAX AT BEAMS OTHER LOCATION CAN BE BIGGER vs. drains? are weep holes below grade?YES locations and heights of weep holes? CHARLIE? WHAT DO WE DO HERE?

7)confirm tap locations? and locations of irrigation mechanicals? back flow etc..? ON SITE WITH MARTIN.. WILL BE LOCATED ON NEW DRAWING

8)why is slope draining away from trench drain grate on western side GL 2? WEEP HOLES ENTER INTO TRENCH DRAIN AND SIDEWALK WILL SHEET FLOW

a3.4

are updated roof sections available?YES… CAN YOU SEND PDFS OF ROOF SECTIONS? BA WILL SEND TO US

1)beams 1 foot thick? FROM HEIGHT OF DECK ALWAYS REFER TO S2.4 structural beams. can we point load? YES… NEED TO CHECK WITH ENGINEER. NEED #/SQ/ FT how many are there? 3 or 4? 6 ACTUALLY

2) are they all running east /west? any running north south? A3.4 ARE ALL LOCATED ON A3.4

3) roof section 3: what is the raised concrete in the middle?THERE WILL NOW BE MEDIA IN THE MIDDLE

4)roof section 2: is there a skylight? what does that look like in section view FORMING NOW… ASK KARLA ABOUT THIS.. WE HAVE PICTURES.. THERE WILL BE A PARAPET WALL SURROUNDING TEH SKYLIGHT AREA

5)were parapet walls added to help raise the MEDIA? YES THEY WERE ALSO FOR GAURD RAILS.. WHICH NEED TO BE SET HEIGHT 42” …

6)area number 4 how does structural beam interface with media depth and walk way? POINT LOAD AND BUMP

ACTION ITEMS:

WE NEED MODELING PACKAGE: HAVE AND WILL UPLOAD

WE NEED UPDATED MONUMENT DRAWING SO CAN REFINE AREAS

DOUBLE CHECK ALL ROOF AREAS: CONFIRM SLOPE VS. FLAT AREAS NEEDING ROOF STABILIZATION

DOUBLE CHECK ON ALL SLOPE AREAS..WITH SEAM DRAWINGS/MAKE SURE CHARLIE GETS THAT PDF!

PDF ON ROOF SET SK( SKETCHES) WE CAN SEE ALL DRAWINGS NOT IN CONTRACT SET

POINT LOAD ON BEAMS: DOUBLE CHECK WITH ENGINEERS ON LOAD FACTORS IN #/ SQ/FT.

OTHER ITEMS:

Rain sensor???: EASY TO ADD

need to amperage is 1- 20 amp enough for the roof? ask valley crest?ASK CHARLIE?

always run extra wire for irrigation , tap for irrigation is off of main water flow with back flow preventer located near methantane pull box and dry hydrant
